Death of Prince Antonio of Bourbon-Two Sicilies (1929-2019)

H.R.H. Prince Antonio of Bourbon-Two Sicilies died at Zurich, Switzerland, on Monday, 11 November, at the age of ninety. His eldest son, Francesco, was at his father's side when Antonio passed away.

Prince Antoine (Antonio) Marie Joseph Alphonse Adam of Bourbon-Two Sicilies was born at Cannes on 20 January 1929 as the only child of Prince Gabriele of Bourbon-Two Sicilies (1897-1975) and his first wife Princess Malgorzata Czartoryski (1902-1929), who wed in 1927. Antonio's mother died two months after his birth. Prince Gabriele later remarried in 1932 to Princess Cecilia Lubomirski (1907-2001). From this union, Antonio gained four half-siblings: Prince Giovanni (1933-2000), Princess Maria Margarita (1934-2014), Princess Maria Immaculata (b.1937), and Prince Casimiro (b.1938).

In July 1958, Prince Antonio married Duchess Elisabeth of Württemberg (b.1933), the daughter of Duke Philipp of Württemberg and Archduchess Rosa of Austria-Tuscany. The couple have four children: Prince Francesco (b.1960), Princess Maria Carolina (b.1962), Prince Gennaro (b.1966), and Princess Annunziata (b.1973).

Prince Antonio is survived by his wife Princess Elisabeth, by their four children, and by seven grandchildren.

Hereditary Princess Viktoria Luise of Leiningen (née Preußen) Expecting First Child

Hereditary Prince Ferdinand of Leiningen and Hereditary Princess Viktoria Luise of Leiningen (née Preußen) have announced that they are expecting their first child, who is due in February 2020. Both descendants of Queen Victoria, Ferdinand of Leiningen and Viktoria Luise von Preußen were married in 2017. Ferdinand (b.1982) is the eldest child and son of Fürst Andreas of Leiningen (b.1955) and his wife Princess Alexandra of Hannover (b.1959). Viktoria Luise (b.1982) is the only daughter of the late Prince Friedrich Wilhelm of Prussia (1939-2015) and his second wife Ehrengard von Reden (b.1943). The 2019 Royal Gatherings In The Hague: A Summary Of Events

The 7th Royal Gatherings in The Hague was held on Saturday, 9 November, and Sunday, 10 November, at the Park Hotel. Hosted by Eurohistory and Booksellers Van Hoogstraten, this annual event continues to bring together royal historians and enthusiasts from around the world. It is a true treat to be able to attend this function - one is able to meet long-time friends and make new acquaintances (who quickly turn into friends) while everyone indulges in their abiding and deep interest in royal history. On Saturday, attendees heard five lectures that were delivered by both well-known authors and up-and-coming royal historians.

The topics and speakers were as follows:

• "The Descendants of Prince Franz of Bavaria and Princess Isabella of Croÿ" by Seth B. Leonard
• "Mary Tudor: Daughter, Sister, Wife, and Queen" by Marian Bette
• "Royal Funerals in England" by Robert Golden
• "Castles and Palaces in Württemberg" by Susan Symons
• "Kingsday/Koningsdag: A Royal Celebration" by Oscar Meijer

Seth B. Leonard is an American contributing writer at the European Royal History Journal.

Marian Bette is a Dutch royal historian with a particular focus on the fascinating female members of the Tudor dynasty. 

Robert Golden is a British historian and the author of the following publications: Relatively Royal: A Personal View, The Golden Book of Royalty: Relatively Speaking, Definitely Royal, Connaught: A Royal Family Album, and Albany: One Dynasty, Two Destinies (co-written with Arturo E. Beéche).

Susan Symons is a British historian (with, as you will see, an avid passion for exploring and documenting the schlösser of Germany) and the author of the following publications: Schloss: The Fascinating Royal History of 25 German Castles, Schloss II: More Fascinating Royal History of German Castles, Young Victoria: The Colourful Personal Life of Queen Victoria, Victoria & Albert: The Colourful Personal Life of Queen Victoria - Part 2, Schloss III: The Fascinating Royal History of 25 Castles in Central Germany, Schloss in Bavaria: The Fascinating Royal History of German Castles, Victoria the Widowed Queen: The Colourful Personal Life of Queen Victoria - Part 3, and Schloss in Baden-Württemberg: The Fascinating Royal History of German Castles.

A fervent devotee of the Royal House of The Netherlands, Oscar Meijer served as one of the organisers of the Koningsdag 2019 Amersfoort festivities. We were all treated to Oranje Bitter after Oscar's lecture: it was delightful.

On Sunday, we were treated to five lectures on a wide variety of royal and imperial topics.

Alexander Borg is a retired British educator who possesses an acute interest and deep knowledge of the dynasties and royal families of the Middle East and Asia. 

Katie Tice is an American lawyer who brings her legal eye to lend others a keen look at the royal subjects that she studies. Katie has written many articles for the European Royal History Journal. She is currently engaged in research that will culminate in a joint biography of the daughters-in-law of Kaiser Wilhelm II: Crown Princess Cecilie (née Duchess of Mecklenburg-Schwerin), Princess Sophie Charlotte (née Duchess of Oldenburg), Princess Adelheid (née Princess of Saxe-Meiningen), Princess Alexandra Victoria (née Duchess of Schleswig-Holstein), Princess Ina Marie (née Countess von Bassewitz-Levetzow), and Princess Marie Auguste (née Princess of Anhalt). 

Edgar Clin is a Parisian-based auctioneer with a noted expertise in Russian antiquities, especially those related to Fabergé, to the Russian Imperial Family, and to the other royal houses of Europe. 

Arturo Beéche is the Founder of Eurohistory and the Publisher of the European Royal History Journal. He is also the author of over twenty-five books on European royal history.

In Profile, By Rachael Sigee: Princess Elisabeth of Thurn and Taxis And Her Work At Sotheby's

Last month, journalist Rachael Sigee wrote a fascinating profile on Princess Elisabeth of Thurn and Taxis. Elisabeth (b.1982) is one of the children of Fürstin Gloria of Thurn and Taxis (née Schönburg-Glauchau) and the late Fürst Johannes. Sigee's piece focuses on the work that Elisabeth is engaged in at Sotheby's, where the princess is currently curating lots for the upcoming Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels auction to be held at Geneva on this Wednesday, 13 November. This wonderful video, taken by T.J. Wilcox for the Sotheby's article, shows Fürstin Gloria and her daughter guiding the viewer through their home, Schloß St. Emmeram: The most amusing part of the video (for me) is when Fürstin Gloria, with a grin, quips: "I have my eye on everything. An Exclusive Photo Of Prince Heinrich Of Croÿ And His Fiancée Joana De Sotto-Mayor

The Duke of Croÿ has mailed out a lovely announcement and photograph celebrating the engagement of his son Prince Heinrich to Maria Joana de Spínola Moreira de Sotto-Mayor. It shows the happy couple on the day that they got engaged, 10 September, while they were on holiday in Norway. Joana's engagement ring looks to be a magnificent creation consisting of a vibrant ruby in the centre surrounded by diamonds on all sides.

Prince Heinrich of Croÿ was born on 9 December 1993 at Münster as the fourth child and third son of Duke Rudolf of Croÿ and Duchess Alexandra of Croÿ. Heinrich's parents, the then Hereditary Prince Rudolf of Croÿ (b.1955) and Countess Alexandra Miloradovich (1960-2015), were married in October 1987. The Duke of Croÿ and the late Duchess of Croÿ have six children: Prince Carl-Philipp (b.1989), Princess Xenia (b.1990), Prince Marc-Emmanuel (b.1992), Prince Heinrich (b.1993), Prince Alexander (b.1995), and Princess Anastasia (b.1998).

On his father's side, Prince Heinrich of Croÿ is the grandson of Duke Carl of Croÿ (1914-2011) and his wife Princess Gabriele of Bavaria (1927-2019). Through his paternal grandfather, Heinrich is the great-grandson of Duke Carl Rudolf of Croÿ (1889-1974) and his first wife Nancy Leishman (1894-1983). Through his paternal grandmother, Heinrich is the great-grandson of Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria (1869-1955) and his second wife Princess Antonia of Luxembourg (1899-1954). Therefore, Prince Heinrich of Croÿ is a great-great-grandson of King Ludwig III of Bavaria and his wife Queen Maria Theresia (née Archduchess of Austria, Princess of Modena).

On his mother's side, Prince Heinrich of Croÿ is the grandson of Count Serafim Nikolaievich Miloradovich (1929-2008) and his wife Baroness Agnes von Hoenning O'Carroll (1936-2014). Through his maternal grandfather, Heinrich is the great-grandson of Count Nikolai Leonidovich Miloradovich (1889-1954) and his wife Princess Olga Yourievna Troubetzkoy. Through his maternal grandmother, Heinrich is the great-grandson of Baron Zdenko von Hoenning O'Carroll (1906-1996) and his first wife Princess Margarite von Lobkowicz (1913-1946). After his first wife's death, Heinrich's great-grandfather Baron Zdenko married Princess Adelgunde of Bavaria (1917-2004), a daughter of Prince Franz of Bavaria (1875-1957; a younger brother of King Ludwig III of Bavaria, who was the father of Heinrich of Croÿ's paternal great-grandfather Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria) and Princess Isabella of Croÿ (1890-1982; the only sister of Duke Carl Rudolf of Croÿ, who is Heinrich of Croÿ's paternal great-grandfather). Joana de Sotto-Mayor was born in 1992 as the only daughter of José Alberto Fonseca de Sotto-Mayor and Dalila Alexandra de Spínola Moreira. Joana has one brother, José Diogo. Joana's paternal grandparents are Jaime Artur Lopes Marques de Sotto-Mayor (1927-1980) and Maria do Socorro Farinha Torres da Fonseca (b.1928).

Princess Flaminia of Hohenzollern to Marry Hungarian Baron in 2020

The Fürst of Hohenzollern has announced that his daughter Princess Flaminia will marry her fiancé Baron Károly von Stipsicz de Ternova on 4 July 2020 at St. Johann Church in Sigmaringen Castle.

Countess Alexandra Schenk von Stauffenberg weds Hereditary Prince Karl Friedrich of Hohenzollern

Princess Flaminia of Hohenzollern was born at Munich on 9 January 1992 as the third child and second daughter of the then-Hereditary Prince Karl Friedrich of Hohenzollern (b.1952) and his first wife Countess Alexandra Schenk von Stauffenberg (b.1960). Karl Friedrich and Alexandra had married in 1985; the couple had four children: current Hereditary Prince Alexander (b.1987), Princess Philippa (b.1988), Princess Flaminia (b.1992), and Princess Antonia (b.1995). Flaminia's parents divorced in 2010.

Baron Károly von Stipsicz de Ternova was born in 1990 as the second son of Baron Károly von Stipsicz de Ternova (b.1959) and his wife Elisabeth Lohne (b.1960). Princess Flaminia and Baron Károly are very distant cousins as both are descendants of Ferenc Thurzó (d.1576). Károly and Flaminia's engagement was announced in December 2018. Eventual Head of the Princely House of Auersperg Has Married

This weekend (either on 9 or 10 November 2019), Prince Alejandro "Alejo" of Auersperg married Soledad "Sole" Decombe Machao. The wedding took place in Uruguay. In time, Alejandro will eventually become the Head of the Princely House of Auersperg.

 

Alejandro was born in 1993 at Paysandú, Uruguay, as the only son and third/last child of Prince Alexander of Auersperg (b.1963) and María Graciela Leyba (b.1964), who were married in 1986. Prince Alejandro has two older sisters: Princess Ximena (b.1987), and Princess María Magdalena (b.1990). Prince Alexander of Auersperg is the second son of Fürst Adolf of Auersperg: Alexander has an elder brother, Hereditary Prince Carl Adolf (b.1962; who only has one daughter from his marriage) as well as two younger sisters, Princesses Margarita (b.1966) and Mercedes (b.1968), and a younger brother, Prince Andreas (b.1980).

Prince Alejandro's paternal grandfather, Fürst Adolf of Auersperg (b.1937), has been the head of the family since the death of Adolf's father and Alejandro's great-grandfather Fürst Karl Adolf in 2006. Fürst Karl Adolf of Auersperg (1915-2006) was married from 1937 until 1959 to Countess Margit Batthyány von Német-Ujvár (1914-1959).
